The Art of Personal Adornment.
Don’t miss this opportunity to show your work in one of the premier shows in the newly renovated and expanded Dahl Galleries opening in January 2009.

The Dahl Arts Center is looking for artists working on innovative approaches to traditional or contemporary forms of The Art of Personal Adornment.
WHO:
Artists from South Dakota and adjacent states are asked to submit materials to be considered for an inaugural exhibition in the newly expanded Dahl galleries.
WHAT:
Artists are required to submit four (high-quality digital) images representative of work created in the last two years. All work must be original, made by the artist, and completed within the last two years. Submitted works are open to a full range of processes and materials. Categories include but are not limited to: beadwork, metalsmithing, lapidary, natural materials, non-traditional materials and glasswork. Invitations to participate in the exhibit will be based on creativity, innovation, quality, consistency and craftsmanship of the work as shown by the images submitted. Entry Fee: $25. Jurors: Ken Bova, Elizabeth Bucheit and Bently Spang.

*The University of Maryland Public Art Project announces
a national competition called INTERPLAY*
Interplay blends several objectives: to create a dynamic environment for public and social engagement, to serve as a contemplative place for individuals to experience contemporary art, and to embrace the scholarly spirit of a distinguished institution of higher education and research.
Requests for Qualifications are invited from experienced artists or artist/design teams, to develop a site-specific public artwork/s for the University of Maryland.
*The work will be an integral part of a renovated outdoor courtyard, a prominent public space adjoining several of the buildings in the College of Arts and Humanities. Three individual projects at $150,000 each, or a design that utilizes the entire space as one concept for the total budget of $450,000, will be considered. There may be an opportunity to incorporate an existing water feature. The completed installation of the winning artwork(s) is anticipated by February 2010 with a dedication ceremony in April 2010.
* The total budget for the project is $450,000 including all fees and associated costs.
* Deadline for completion is February 2010 with a Dedication Ceremony in April 2010.

Celebrating 42 Years of Impact Using Foundation-Funded Film & Video
The Council on Foundations and Grantmakers in Film + Electronic Media (GFEM) are seeking submissions of films and videos for the Council on Foundations' 42nd Annual Film & Video Festival to be held May 4-6 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia.
THE FILM & VIDEO FESTIVAL
The festival showcases films, videos, and television programs that have received support from foundations, corporate giving programs, and donor networks, with the aim of encouraging grantmakers to use media to advance their philanthropic goals. The festival promotes foundation support of creative, high-quality productions that expand the boundaries of the use of media for the social good.
Submissions may target local, state, regional, national, and international audiences. The committee will give special consideration to projects that demonstrate innovative strategies for distribution, outreach, public education, and civic engagement, such as the use of print or broadcast journalism, websites, networking, schools, libraries, or the meetings and conferences of nonprofit organizations.

July 1 All work must be at the Center no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tues., July 1.
July 25 Closing Reception on Fri., July 25, from 5:30 7:30 p.m. for the artists and public.
July 3-25 Exhibition dates.
Aug. 1 Work must be picked up at the Center by 5:00 p.m. (during regular hours of operation) on or before Aug. 1.
THE EXHIBITION (July 3 25, 2008)
The exhibition will be open to the public July 3 25, with a closing reception on Fri., July 25, from 5:30 7:30 p.m. The Center hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00-5:00 p.m. For further information or questions, please call (605) 692-4177. Exhibition judge is Cory Knedler, Chair of the Department of Art at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion.
ENTRY ELIGIBILITY
• All artists and craftspeople, 18 years or older, residing in the State of South Dakota are eligible to enter. There is a $10.00 per artwork entry fee. Each participant will be limited to two (2) entries total. All media will be included with the exception of photography. All work must be original and completed in the last two (2) years from Aug. 1, 2006, and not previously exhibited at the Center.
• No wet artwork will be accepted.
• No work is to exceed 50” in any direction, including matting and framing. No sawtooth hangers, please. Two dimensional work must be framed and ready to hang. (Any works not ready will not be hung.) Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 50 pounds.
• Entries for each work must be appropriately labeled with the owner’s name, address, telephone number, title, medium, price, and date of completion. Entry forms must be attached to the back of the work.
• Entrants are responsible for transportation of their work to and from the Center. Return shipping must be included.
• Every reasonable precaution will be taken to assure the safety of submitted artwork. However, the Brookings Arts Council will not be responsible for loss or damage to artwork, however caused. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work.
• Entry in the exhibition signifies agreement with all conditions of the exhibition.
• The Brookings Arts Council (BAC) reserves the right to reject any artwork and its decision is final.
• If your entry does not meet the standards listed above, and your piece does not qualify for the exhibition, the $10.00 per piece entry fee is non-refundable.
• BAC Board Members and staff are not eligible to enter.
PUBLICITY
The Brookings Arts Council reserves the right to photograph all exhibited works and to use these photographs for promotional, educational, and/or publicity purposes.
SALES
The Center will receive a 25% commission for any work sold from the exhibition. All prices given must reflect this commission.

Awards to be given are:

Inaugural Event to Bring Together Those Who Dream in Green
Plain Green, a conference dedicated to education and advocacy for sustainability in all its forms throughout the upper Midwest, will be held September 24-26, at the Washington Pavilion, Sioux Falls.
The inaugural event will bring together professionals, government, students and the general public to learn about, discuss and act on the varied issues affecting our environment today. A diverse range of speakers, tours and other events will encourage new viewpoints and reveal new opportunities to make positive change in the world.

Anyone can dream in green. That’s why we’re reaching out to each of you to see how we can best utilize your skills, talents and passion to make a plain green difference. Check out our submission categories below to find your niche. Plain and simple, whether you’re entering as an individual or as part of a team, get it done by August 15, 2008.
PLAIN ACTION Design for a sustainable future
To enter, write an original statement (200 words or fewer) about how your environmental action, design solution, or innovation (engineering, interior, landscape, architectural, or environmental) will build awareness about sustainability and address and environmental and/or social problem. Your original statement must be accompanied by digital images, video, or power point slides of a design process or idea.
Entries will be evaluated on the most apt, creative, original and interesting submissions; demonstrated personal connection with sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness; actual or potential impact on sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness; and treatment of assigned themes.
PLAIN EXPRESSION Create a vision for new possibilities
To enter, create an imaginative, original work devoted to sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness in any one of the following categories: film, fine arts, performance, photography, creative writing, journalism, animation, and graphic design. Your original statement (200 words or fewer) must be accompanied by digital images, video, or power point slides of your work.
ENTER IN ONE OF EIGHT CATEGORIES:
a. Film: video footage or still frames with transitions.
b. Fine Arts: printmaking, painting, sculpture, and illustrations.

Entries will be evaluated on the most apt, creative, original and interesting submissions; demonstrated personal connection with sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness; actual or potential impact on sustainability, positive environmental change, and/or raising environmental awareness; and treatment of assigned themes.
AWARDS
Plain Green 08 will award a total of $2,700 to people who are passionate, active, and involved and who are making a plain green difference. Under the three categories of Action, Expression, and Resolve, there will be a total of three third place awards of $100, three second place awards of $300, and three grand prize awards of $500.
Think you’ve got what it takes? Take action and promote change through conservation and design, express your vision of what is possible, and resolve as a researcher to make a difference and change the way others see sustainability and conservation.
